How to choose a cordless leaf blower

Start by choosing the tool format that suits your tasks. A handheld blower is held in one hand, while the collection also includes backpack models and tools that combine blowing and vacuuming. Next, compare the battery platform and pack contents. Some models are sold without a battery, while others include one or more batteries and a charger. Combination kits may add a line trimmer, lawn mower or both. By separating these formats first, you can then compare the weight, air speed, airflow and controls of models intended for similar tasks more easily.

Handheld blower, blower vacuum or backpack model?

A leaf blower moves and gathers leaves together with other garden debris. A blower vacuum adds a vacuuming function and, depending on the model, may also have a collection bag and shredding system.

Backpack blowers are another product family, available in POWERALL 48V (24V x 2) and 60V versions. Some backpack models are intended for more intensive cleaning tasks and are carried using a harness. When choosing between these formats, compare how the tool is carried, its weight, its controls and the pack contents.

Choosing the right battery platform

The collection covers five platforms: POWERALL 24V, 40V, 60V, 48V DVT and POWERALL 48V (24V x 2). If you already own Greenworks batteries, choose a blower whose product page states that it is compatible with that platform. The 24V, 40V and 60V batteries remain associated with their respective product families.

POWERALL 48V (24V x 2) requires particular attention: the relevant tools operate with two Greenworks 24V batteries used simultaneously, rather than a separate 48V battery. This platform is also different from 48V DVT. Before purchasing, check the platform shown on the product page to select the correct batteries for the model.

Tool only or supplied with a battery and charger?

The pack contents can make the difference between two similar products. A “tool only” version may suit you if you already own compatible batteries, but whether a charger is included depends on the pack. Depending on the model, it may contain one 2 Ah or 4 Ah battery, or two 2 Ah or 4 Ah batteries. One backpack model is offered with two 8 Ah batteries.

Several kits also include a charger, while some 24V products add a cable with a USB-C battery. Combination sets bring together several tools and may include batteries with different capacities. Compare the exact pack contents with the equipment you already own rather than relying only on the voltage or product family name.

Comparing functions and specifications

After choosing the format and platform, compare the air speed, airflow and weight stated for each model. These figures provide more useful information when considered together than when looking only at the highest voltage. Motor types also vary: many blowers use a brushless motor, while some models have a brushed motor.

Depending on the model, the controls may include variable speed, cruise control, a Turbo mode or a boost function. Some products also feature Quiet Force technology. For a blower vacuum, compare the collection bag, shredding system and supplied accessories. Filters for voltage and tool type can then help narrow down the selection.
